Ways to Celebrate Day of Leisure: June 22, 2007
Plan your next vacation
Spend an hour at the travel agent or online (we like SmarterTravel.com and AirTreks.com) looking for good deals in a place where you want to go.
Get outside and get fit
Go running, walking, hiking, biking, rollerblading. Spend one hour getting fit. Try the Sports Basement to gear up.
Host your own "nap-in" at a park
Whether by yourself or with a group, find a leisurely spot at your local park and take a healthy snooze. For more on SF parks go to SF Recreation & Parks.
Have a picnic
What could be more leisurely than a picnic with friends and family? All you need is a large blanket, some food and yes, perhaps even a picnic basket!
Go see an afternoon matinee
Take the afternoon off to catch a good flick, and score matinee prices! View SFGate.com for showtimes.
Play a game
Play chess, checkers, charades, cards, or any other game with friends.
Take a three-day weekend road trip
Pick a place within striking distance, and pack up and go!
Visit an art exhibition or gallery
Peruse your local museum or art gallery options. Relax and take in the latest exhibition at leisurely pace.
Visit a museum
Plan a visit to a local museum. Many have free days or are always free: Museum Spot
Go on a walking tour
There are always plenty of FREE ones available in San Francisco put on by San Francisco City Guides.
Go to the library
Free book, DVD and video rentals; borrow a cookbook and make yourself dinner; check their events calendar, most are free; access the Internet for free via shared terminals or free wireless access: SF Public Library
Go fly a kite
Take a friend or family member with you, and fly a kite at the park, the beach or open space. Let go of the string and chase the kite around. Tie it to your wrist and lay down and take a nap under it. Watch out for kite-eating trees!
Visit a regional park or nature center
Find some open space and walk, bike or just relax in the environment. Take in all the flora and fauna available.
Sign up for an continuing education class
Take an hour to research and sign up for a continuing education class at your local community college. Pick something interesting and unusual! For more info contact City College of San Francisco.
Make a to do list
Now draw a line half-way down, and cross off 10% at the bottom. Choose the most important to do's from the top of the list. Finish one of those, then reward yourself!
