from Chapter 4 - Rediscovering San Francisco

"One's destination is never a place but rather a new way of looking at things."

    ~Henry Miller
Think you know your own town? You might be surprised. Did you know, for instance, that Lombard is not actually San Francisco's crookedest street? Vermont Street in Potrero Hill beats it, based on a complex calculation incorporating bends per yard combined with grade and angle. What's more, it has better views!

Do you know what the highest point in San Francisco is? (Hint: it's a trick question). While tourists might claim Twin Peaks (902 feet) and locals Mount Davidson (925 feet), the highest actual point by a longshot is the top of Sutro Tower, at 1800 feet above sea level. Incidentally, the tower itself is also the tallest structure in the City at 977 feet, surpassing the Transamerica Pyramid by over 100 feet.

The tall and short of it is, spend your non-working hours discovering SF's true highlights, as well as soaking up the culture and ambience that make living here or visiting so great. Rest assured that our City's boundless opportunities for urban adventure and exploration will entertain you whether a tourist or a local. "There's a reason why everyone moves here," says sabbatical veteran Mary Mangold. "This is such a great city. Have as much fun as you can." Words to live by!
